Cookies
No analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. One cookie for customers, only when you sign in to your own pages — by following a link we sent you or by sending us an enquiry — and this page says exactly what it is.
What that means
Visiting the public pages of this site sets no cookie, runs no analytics, loads no tracking pixels and embeds no third-party scripts. Your browser does keep the few things listed below, and none of them is sent to anybody or used to follow you.
The server keeps ordinary request logs, which include an IP address, for security and for keeping the service running. Those are not cookies and are not used to build a profile of you.
The one cookie, and when you get it
Two things sign you in to your own pages, and signing in needs one cookie: following a secure link we sent you — to your account, an enquiry, a quotation, an invoice, a job, a guarantee or a review — and sending us an enquiry through the form on this site, so that the page you see next can show you your own enquiry. Nothing else on this site sets one.
- Name: __Host-cityline_customer.
- What it holds: a random value and nothing else. Not your name, not your email address, not anything about you. It is a key to a session record kept on our server.
- How long it lasts: up to thirty days, and it stops working the moment the session is ended.
- It cannot be read by JavaScript, it is only ever sent over HTTPS, and it is not sent to any other site.
This is a strictly necessary cookie: without it neither a link we sent you nor the enquiry form could show you your own pages. Cookies of this kind do not require consent, which is why you are not asked.
There are two more cookies, which only our own staff get, when they sign in to the office system: __Host-cityline_staff, which keeps them signed in, and __Host-cityline_staff_device, which lasts ninety days and lets the office system recognise a browser that has signed in before, so that somebody else’s failed attempts cannot lock a member of staff out. A customer never receives either. They are listed here because a page claiming to list the cookies should list them.
To get rid of the customer cookie, sign out — there is a link on every page you reach this way — or delete cookies for this site in your browser. Either works, and neither affects anything else.
Other things your browser keeps
None of these is a cookie, and none is sent to us, but the law treats information kept on your device in the same way as cookies, so they are listed here too.
- When you visit this site, your browser may install a small script from us, called a service worker, and keep a copy of the site’s own files — its styles, scripts, icons and a page to show when you are offline — so that pages load quickly and, with no signal, you see a message rather than an error. It holds none of your information and none of the pages you read. Clearing site data removes it.
- On the RoofCare pages, if your browser can install this site as an app: once you dismiss the offer, or use it, your browser remembers that, so we do not ask again. That value stays on your device. Clearing site data removes it.
What would change
If analytics are ever added, to understand which pages help people, they will require consent, they will be off until you give it, refusing will not change how the site works, and this page will describe them before they are switched on. There are none today.
Controlling cookies generally
Every browser lets you see and delete stored cookies and block them by site.
The privacy notice covers what happens to information you send us, which is a different question from what is stored in your browser.
